i will never understand why special education classes are not required in teaching programs like they shouldn’t be an elective they should be required because everyone is going to have a kid who has special needs and unfortunately they won’t have the background or training that’s needed to deal with it

This bothers me as well! special day classes are not required, a 3rd grader with autism lower on the spectrum whose mother knows this, does not want to have to drive her daughter to another school because she’ll be late to work so they allow this poor girl to be thrown into mainstream 3rd grade classes in which she feels overwhelmed and constantly disrupts the class. However, if it was REQUIRED this girl would be getting correct ABA treatment at her learning pace with teachers who understand autism and other developmental disorders. IEPs can only do so much, if we want to best help children with special needs we need to be able to give them what they actually need.
